24 Mar 1945: lovely girl... and raspberry cake

24 Sat. Mild, much soft sunshine, rather freshening wind. Cycled to Cheam to buy cats’ meat; some for Tibby Veale. Stood in a long queue beside a dear girl: I felt so proud and happy: she was so nicely dressed and so lovely. In afternoon to Morden to buy several things including a raspberry cake. Disconnected gas fire in my bedroom. Laid oilcloth in scullery. Warning from 7.6 to 7.27 a.m. no incident. Also from 7.52 to 80 a.m. no incident.
