19 Mar 1945: Fred French's French-polishing

19 Mon. Rather cold, very cloudy, very rough. Cleaned the upstairs front room windows. Cycled to Merton and Wimbledon in afternoon; bought two pairs of socks at Rego, having bought cats meat and sprats – elsewhere, of course. Put finishing touches to french-polished top of Addie’s “tall-boy”, she had already put on foundation coats. Loud rocket with double report at 1.35 a.m. in SE I think. Warning from 8.15 to 8.21 a.m. no incident. Warning from 9.15 to 9.25 a.m. no incident.
