7th Jan 1945: overnight flying-bomb shows orange in sky
7 Sun. Slight, white morning frost, cloudy day, becoming very cold later – freezing very hard. Rocket at 2.15 a.m. very loud; Ciss saw an orange glow coming through the window as it passed over. Another at 3.45 a.m. Distant rocket at 12.15 p.m. A loud one in NE at 5.15 p.m. Cousin Alf stayed the afternoon: Len and Doris made a brief call. Addie Veale came in evening and we chatted pleasantly round the fire.
