25 April 1942: storm flattens plants

25 Sat. Mild, bright sun all day but completely spoilt by the terrific N.E. wind which blew with very great force not abating at night. Struggled to Merton to buy a few things; got the groceries as usual. The hurricane is laying all the newly grown things in the garden down flat.
