Fri 27 Feb 1942: queues outside cats' meat shop

Hard, dry morning frost; fine, calm day. Shade temperature rose to 36 degrees in afternoon with a sun temperature of 51. Freezing very hard by evening and a brilliant moon. Walked to Merton cats' meat shop twice; waited in queue in vain for shop to open but meat did not arrive till late afternoon when I made my second trip but queue was so long I did not wait but had to wait in a short queue for herrings. Watched a signwriter painting yellow letters on the meat shop window. Oh did some shopping locally - meat, cakes, etc.
