Saturday 5th July 1941: biscuit & spud queues

.
"Shopping these days is a heartbreaking business"

Warm; perfect day in every way. To Wimbledon to do shopping which proved to be a wild goose chase as I came back with only two articles out of the list I wanted to buy. Had to queue up for two pounds of potatoes. The queue for biscuits was too long so gave it up as a bad job. Shopping these days is a heartbreaking business; very hard to get what you want, indeed only essentials are obtainable then only with difficulty. We are not starving but the prospects are not rosy. Saw a bit of cricket but too depressed to follow it all closely.
