Friday 20th June 1941: linen on window

Very warm, grand sunny day but rather heavy and close. To buy meat in morning. Men put in two more panes of glass. Shopping in afternoon; met Ruby Cook in Coombe Lane. Trimmed privet hedge and bush in front garden. The climbing rose is a picture to-day: about 50 blooms on it. Took the black card of the front room window and covered it with white linen to let in more light. To Dear Mother's grave in evening to water the flowers. A hard day's work.
