1 June. Whitsunday, 1941: bombs & pretty flowers

Mild, chilly wind; some sun but little warmth in it. Nice walk in evening along Merton Park Golf Links. Many sign of bomb havoc there. I saw in the Cherry Woods a little colony of pretty magenta wild flowers with fernlike leaves; I think they were of the eranesbill(???) family: it cheered me to see them. Warning at 11.50 p.m. Several machines went over; two were fired at by the local guns: all clear at 3.20 a.m. on... (2 June)
