Wednesday 24th July 1940

Very mild; very cool for time of year. Very dull and cloudy, rain all day but clearing up at night. Walk along Coombe Lane in the rain in evening. Gave Alan Spooner an ebonite coil formed to make a short-wave coil. Dinkey came running and growling - he had caught a mouse. That makes two he has had recently.
On this day: Rumania seized British oil installations.
